Having just returned from cruising the caribbean with Regent on the seven seas mariner , I would like to say how pleased I am with the experience. On boarding the ship our first impressions were "what have we paid all this extra money for" . We have sailed with P&O , Celebrity and Royal Caribbean in the past and this ship didn't compare with some of the big RCCL and Celebrity ships for wow factor.
We needn't have worried , the overall cruise experience was excellent , the staff were the most obliging and friendly we have met,the cabin was roomy and had the nearest thing to a proper full size bed we have experienced on a cruise ship and the dining was excellent.
Not a cruise for kids , RCCL reign supreme for them , but for a 52 year old and his wife it was perfect. Our first all inclusive cruise was precisely that , nothing to pay for on board unless you want to buy clothes, perfume or jewellery from the shops.
No fixed time or table for dining means you can eat at a different time with different company every night , or on your own should the mood take you. The speciality restaurants are first class, though the indochine offering whilst very, very good was below our very high standards. The poolside BBQ's are superb (we have aquired a new taste for bbq'd lobster)and lunch offerings are excellent.
With one of the best passenger to space/crew ratios in the industry there was never long queues or lack of tables anywhere on the ship.
Evening entertainment was reaonable , probably more suited to the older passengers than my wife and I but we were always late to bed and ready for sleep so what there was obviously was adequate.
We were dissapointed that the only excursion we booked was cancelled due to lack of numbers but having cruised the caribbean many times before were happy to make our own arrangements for on shore activities.
Definitely a cruise line we will holiday with again other than when taking our 15 year old son , he would be much happier on RCCL with their rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, surf pool, crazy golf course etc. But for a romantic sailaway for two , Regent gets my vote!

| Quality of Food | |
| Evening meals in the main restaurant were very good, the speciality restaurants are excellent though they have to be booked and can only be used once , book on line before cruising to avoid dissapointment. | | Entertainment | |
| We watched a comedian magician , he was very funny , we met two dancers whilst listening to a live band poolside and promised to watch their show , the show was poor , we missed the other shows due to dining too late with new found friends. | | Shore Excursions | n/a |
| The only one we booked was cancelled due to lack of numbers , shame! | | Staff | |
| We never met an unfriendly member of staff! Bear in mind all tips are included in the price so all this friendliness is genuine. Even though dining was at random with different waiters , some managed to find out my wifes name and remembered her when they saw her again, amazing! The bar staff also knew she liked a small amount of southern comfort in her glass after a couple of days ??? How do they remember??? | | Children's Facilities | |
| Although I've ticked unsatisfactory , there were a very few children on the ship, there are not really any facilities for kids but i did see a staff member playing with a young boy , making tunnels out of easy chairs next to the elevators. | | Onboard Activities | |
| Activities are available , a sports deck with a tennis court,a gym, a couple of table tennis tables and a shuffleboard but this ship is more tuned in to comfort and relaxation. | | Cabins | |
| A good size cabin, a proper bath with a shower over (though this made headroom a little cramped for me at 6ft 3") a walk in wardrobe with tons of hanging space , a very nearly "proper" double bed, a bathroom you could swing a cat in and patio doors out onto a good size balcony with padded cushioned chairs........ what more could you ask? | | Overall Rating | |
